Lantern Queen Wedding Story

Curious about what happens on a Lantern Queen wedding? Read on...

It's your wedding day! Your maid of honor and the best man arrived at the boat a little early to arrange favors, deliver the wedding cake, and place bud vases on the tables.

Your guests arrive at boarding time and are seated in

the upper deck "chapel." Your bridesmaids (and Mom) are in the dining room and the groomsmen are busy greeting your guests. At the very last minute your father drives you all the way down the pier - right up to the Lantern Queen's gangway! (That's so that your guests can't see you before the wedding!) You and Dad come aboard and join the bridesmaids in the dining room while a deckhand parks your car in the parking lot.

Everyone is aboard! Time to cast off. The Lantern Queen slowly backs out of Hutchins Park as the whistle blows twice. The quiet chatter of guests turns into a louder buzz as everyone takes in the views. The Captain steers the riverboat to a spot that's out of traffic, and the 1st officer takes over the helm. The Captain makes his way to the tulle and flower decorated wedding arch and waits with the groom and best man.

A crew member opens the dining room door and tells you that it's TIME! You make your way up the stairs and wait just in front of the wheelhouse. As the music starts, the bridesmaids begin their procession. Then, after a pause, the Captain asks that everyone rise. Your music begins and you walk regally down the aisle.

The vows and ceremonies are always individual so I won't try to describe them here.

"and I pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss your bride." And that kiss is caught by dozens of cameras. If you're lucky you may hear cheering and see camera flashes from passing boats, maybe even the Martha Lewis!

The bridal party recesses back to the stairs, where a crew member motions them back around the wheelhouse. As their guests move downstairs to the dining room, the bridal party sneaks back to the chapel for some quick photos. Then they join their guests for a wonderful meal. Again, the meal is very individualized, so I won't try to describe it here. But, while you're eating, the Lantern Queen crew is busy transforming the upper deck into a dance floor and sightseeing area.

After your meal you and your guests continue the fun upstairs, dancing, sightseeing, or romancing at sunset. You might even want to take a turn driving the Lantern Queen! And of course there's time for all the traditions such as throwing the bouquet, before you all return to the dining room to cut the wedding cake!

All too soon the wedding cruise is over and you say goodbye to all your guests at the end of the gangway.

The good news is that you can relive this wonderful day anytime by going on one of the Lantern Queen's public cruises!
